Book review : Private India

Murder mystery! As it suggests, it has to be a mystery till the end and then only it can be called one in true sense.

I have always been a fan of good suspense movies. But those are rare. One I can quickly recollect is ‘Kahani’. It was such an amazing suspense thriller!

I was a little apprehensive when I decided to read my first such book. I have read “Krishna Key” and “Chanakya’s Chant” by the same author “Ashwin Gandhi”, both I had quite liked. All I had in mind when I picked this book was, it has to live up to expectations or I will drop it as soon as I find out the mystery, the murderer in this case.

So I began reading the book. This book already told me that it was about a series of murders in the metro city mumbai. So I knew that i would discover the first murder very soon and it so happened. Along with that came in to picture Santosh Wagh, the officer at private india, which happened to be leading organization who solved crime mysteries and cases.

But the way the murder happened, lead to so many questions and guesses, I realised that the book might end up to be an interesting read. Though I still had my doubts as at times, even movie with really good plot turn out to be predictable and you lose interest midway.

One after the other, series of events and murder happened and all the characters of the story started coming in to picture. And as the plot opened up, it became all the more interesting and by then you start feeling like not to put book down until it finished.

But just then a few twist and turns make you feel already know the murderer and can predict everything but you fall flat very soon with next series of events.

I really liked the way each murder unfolded and those unfamiliar murders became so obvious with the past events. Heads up to Santosh Wagh, the lead character. All the characters have their role to play and all are equally important for the story. I obviously don’t want to write anything more about the plot, murders, characters or suspense as it would then be unjust 😉

Even though its a big fat book, the chapters are very small and its a real fast page turner. You won’t feel like keeping the book down once you start reading.

Overall, I would say a really good pick as it is quite fast paced and will keep you hooked. Even though you know the killer by the end, you still don’t want to put the book down till you finish it. That’s an achievement by the author. I really felt as if I was watching a suspense thriller murder mystery bollywood movie and could imagine each and every bit. Won’t be surprised if this turns out to be an actual bollywood movie 😉

What are you waiting for? 😀

Black beauties!

Black is one of my most favorite colors and following are my most wanted black items in the list.

Black sky with twinkling stars

images (1)

There is so much in this universe than just the planet earth. So many tiny looking stars in the sky which make up for the galaxy. I just find myself at peace when I get to watch that dark black sky in the night with countless number of small little stars. And if that’s at the sea shore/beach, just perfect!

Black gadgets

I love my gadgets to be black! Be it laptop, mobile, camera, headphones, external hard disks, portables …

Black cloths

Shopping doesn’t excite me a lot. I hate that idea of searching through and trying hell of different cloths to choose a few. What comes to my rescue is my favorite black color. Anything black is a must to have!

Black long hair

My hair is brown in color naturally but then I crave for that long black hair!

Black n white images

Being in a profession of web/media, I play a lot with colors. But then nothing beats those black and white images /art work! The charm is totally different!

Zest experience!

We all live a routine life everyday. From the time we wake up till we go to sleep, we have fixed set of things that we do all the days. If it’s a holiday/Sunday, again we have a typical routine set which is little different from other days but then it’s again pretty much the same for all the holidays. All these at times get too boring and monotonous and we all want a change. Some do make an effort to bring in a change once in a while and the rest all continue the same way as always. So then what is that change or zest that brings meaning to my life and makes it exciting  ?

I just love to get lost in the dream world while reading books. The suspense of what will happen next and the way story unfolds, is the most fascinating experiences. Fiction is my favorite genre along with mythology/history.

Nothing can beat sitting in the balcony/window sipping hot cup of tea, watching the rain droplets falling and that wet sand smell. It’s heaven! And if it is accompanied with the favorite book to read, just perfect! I even love walking in rains but that gets quite clumsy at times in Mumbai due to bad roads with pot holes and dirt around.

Exploring new places/outing

I like to travel and love to explore new places. It gets really wonderful if the holiday is with the loved ones. Even simple outings like trying out a new restaurant / going to a new place near by / just a walk with my loved one / walk on the beach / gazing the sea is what I look forward to at the bare minimum. Backpacking tour to a favorite destination is the ultimate zest!

Who doesn’t love surprises, and I am no exception to that. Just not the surprises from the loved ones but the surprises via circumstances are the ones to look forward too. And if that comes in as a short break or a holiday to a destination I always wanted to go to, just awesome!

Be a child!

just be a child logo new a copy

Everyone has a child within even after one grows up. With growing up brings in a lot of changes and responsibilities and you forget the child within you. Once in a while, you want someone to pamper you, treat you like a child, make all your wishes come true, handle all your tantrums and the list is long here 😉

coupons, cashback and bargain!

It was the time of Diwali when the Sale season was at the full swing and everyone was looking for great offer coupons to buy stuff. I was just following all the deals, and cash backs which all the online sites were offering and I came across this deal on Flipkart which I couldn’t resist. But before that,a little background of why I was so desperate to buy.

IMG-20130531-WA0022I ended up breaking the screen of my Samsung Galaxy Nexus 3 at a social function. This was the first major disaster that happened to any of my gadgets. I have always been so particular about my gadgets that this was almost an unbelievable thing. I was all the more upset when I got to know that the screen replacement might cost me about 10K and that to the screens were not available in India as the device had not launched here officially. It was indeed not worth spending 10K on this phone when the actual cost of the new one was about 13-15K.  The good part was that the phone still worked perfectly fine. I decided to continue with this until I get a good bargain for the new phone.

After a few months, at the time of Diwali, as I mentioned earlier, I saw this deal on Flipkart which offered a new Nexus 4 with great deal. 15% cash back on Standard Chartered credit/debit card along with 3 goodies worth 3K free. The cost of the phone was roughly about 24K. This came in as the perfect deal for me. I started looking for someone with Standard Chartered CC/DC along with good bargain to sell my old broken phone. All the vendors offered me hardly 2K for my old phone stating the screen cost of 10K and actual market price of new phone as 12K. I was sure I could get a better bargain as the phone was in a perfect working condition and that’s when some one told me about guys. I contacted them and they offered me a good  cash back of 5.5K, I was dancing like crazy with that offer. And in the meanwhile, I got a friend over twitter who was willing to help me with his Standard Chartered CC.

So then everything was sorted. Actual new gadget price 24+K, discount on StanChart CC of about 4Kish, cash back of 5.5K on the old broken phone and goodies worth 3K = New phone price of about 12Kish. Best purchase that was!

PS: I would have loved to mention the name of the person who helped me buy the new phone but for valid reasons, I’ll skip that. Many many thanks for helping me get the best deal of my lifetime 🙂

Happy Birthday!!

Since the rise of social networks, people have forgotten to remember special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries etc. Only when someone sees the birthday notification on Facebook, he/she wishes the person there. Most of the people today, when they visit FB, first wish the people for their birthdays but then are those wishes really worth? Think again!

Gone are the days when people used to maintain calendars / diaries to note down birthdays, later came in Google calendar to keep the list digitally accessible and now with Facebook etc., no one does any of those.

I did an experiment on this birthday of mine, result was quite as expected.

I turned off my birthday notification so that no one gets to know when my birthday is.

So, what happens if someone is not on FB, or has not put his / her birthday public? Well, people don’t wish, simple! And that’s what happened with me. No one wished me on FB but I got calls from all those who cared to remember my birthday and that made it more special for me than the FB wishes.

And then, I did a check in on FB mentioning my birthday, I got only a couple of wishes. Does that mean, people don’t follow your wall posts as well ?

The bottom line is I got saved from replying to all those people who would have sent mandatory birthday wishes on FB. It would have been practically impossible to reply to all of them 😛

Disclaimer: I don’t mean to say one shouldn’t wish on FB etc but yes, the whole remembering occasions scene is disappearing and that’s the only point I tried to make with this post.
